The Marvel Cinematic Universe is comprised of 14 movies and six TV shows (so far). That may look like quite a big universe already, but it's about to get a whole lot bigger with the upcoming TV series. The show will consist of eight episodes, with the first two getting a theatrical release via IMAX before it moves to ABC.

The Inhumans are about to let us explore a whole new aspect of the with everything that they bring to the table. But with such a vast mythology and number of characters, you might be wondering just who we'll be seeing in the series. So here's your ultimate guide to who's been cast:

The Heroes

Get ready to meet the people keeping the Inhuman city of Attilan safe:

Anson Mount Is Black Bolt

Show's description of the character:

"Can say volumes with just a look. Strong, thoughtful and private, he’s unaccustomed to being questioned or feeling a need to answer to anyone, to an extent that can verge on arrogance."

Black Bolt is the king of Attilan, and is perhaps the most powerful Inhuman out there thanks to one aspect: His voice. To give you an idea of just what he can do, he could throw the Hulk into outer space by merely whispering "go."

But as you can imagine, that comes with a price. Given the serious damage he can cause to the people around him by simply sneezing, he remains quiet. Black Bolt is stoic, but that doesn't stop him from being a thoughtful and fair ruler for his people and a loving husband to his faithful companion, Medusa.

Of 's casting, Executive Producer Scott Buck had this to say:

“Black Bolt is a character whose deep complexity must be conveyed without uttering a single word, and I’m very excited to have Anson on board to bring him to life.”

Serinda Swan Is Medusa

Show's description of the character:

"An elegant and intelligent advisor to her husband, she struggles to find her place outside of their relationship, as others tend to view her as just a pretty face. Strong and resourceful, she’s not afraid to break the rules when the situation demands it."

Medusa [Credit: Marvel Comics]

Medusa is married to Black Bolt. She is, in many ways, very similar to him. But don't think she lives in her husband's shadow, as she's an extremely powerful character and an amazing superhero in her own right. Medusa is an intelligent and powerful ruler who always tries to do the best for her people. And given that Black Bolt can't speak, she serves as his speaker. That's a dynamic I can't wait to see explored in the show.

Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, said this about 's casting:

“Serinda empowers Medusa’s regal glory and still maintains a relatability that synced perfectly with the character. She is nothing short of wonderful.”

Show's description of the character:

"His mind is his greatest asset. Always prepared with a plan, his outlook on life is the glass is always half-empty and often cracked and dirty as well. Though his outlook can be grim, he has a droll, dry sense of humor."

Karnak [Credit: Marvel Comics]
Karnak [Credit: Marvel Comics]

Karnak is Black Bolt's cousin and advisor. His power is to detect structural weaknesses in anything, from living creatures to inanimate objects. So don't let his slim build fool you, Karnak is one of the strongest fighters in the Marvel Universe thanks to his abilities. Given his great intellect, he's gotten the Inhuman Royal Family out of tough situations, in his role the family's advisor and strategist. Much like his cousin, Karnak is stoic, yet incredibly loyal.

Executive producer of the show, Scott Buck, had this to say about :

“Ken Leung has a great natural intelligence that reads clearly and will add depth and complexity to the very complicated character of Karnak,”

Show's description of the character:

"Soulful but still learning the ways of the world, she has the arrogance of youth. Impetuous and independent, she is also deeply devoted to her family."

Crystal is Medusa's younger sister and one of the most powerful members of the Royal Family. Her power is to control the elements (fire, water, air, earth) in various ways. For example, separate the atoms of any given element and give them an electrical charge, which allows her to summon lightning.

Show's description of the character:

“Member of the Royal family, and leader of Attilan’s military. With super strong legs, complete with hooves, he can generate destructive seismic waves with a single stomp. The ying to his cousin Karnak’s (Ken Leung) yang, Gorgon would rather fight than talk to solve his problems.”

Gorgon is Black Bolt's cousin and bodyguard. His power comes from his hooves, which allow him to create massive shockwaves and earthquakes. While he's often reckless and prefers to use force over his mind, Gorgon is very loyal to his people. In fact, aside from serving as protection for his cousin, the powerful superhero also trains young Inhumans who have recently been exposed to the Terrigen Mist.

Mike Moh Is Triton

Show's description of the character:

"Supremely athletic. The ultimate picture of cool. He’s calm under pressure and willing to do anything to get the job done."

Triton [Credit: Marvel Comics]

Triton is Karnak's brother. Personality-wise, he's essentially the Inhumans' Johnny Storm. In the beginning, Triton's mutation forced him to endure some very harsh situations, such as having to live in a tank of water to survive, and carrying a breathing apparatus when leaving his aquatic environment. In the comics, Maximus the Mad built Triton a small breathing apparatus, so these two Inhumans could share a bond in the TV show.

Sonya Balmores Is Auran

Show's description of the character:

"A capable and no-nonsense woman. She is fiercely loyal to the King of Attilan.”

Auran [Credit: Marvel Comics]

Auran's ability is quite peculiar. She can choose any word - for example, "Tomato" - hear where it was spoken and know the location. This gift has made her be known as Attilan's brightest researcher. Auran is not only a member of Attilan's security force, but also a mother, so hopefully this side of her gets explored in the show.

Ellen Woglom In An Unnamed Role

Show's description of the character:

"Smart, intense, and focused — so focused that oftentimes, social skills take a back seat. Her job at a private aerospace company is her life, second only to her passion for all things space and lunar. She’s primed to be swept up in an adventure.”

Ellen's exact role is currently a mystery, but going by her description, it looks like she will be portraying an entirely new character.

Lockjaw Will Be In It, Too

Lockjaw [Credit: Marvel Comics]
Lockjaw [Credit: Marvel Comics]

Yes, we'll be seeing the legendary Lockjaw in the show. No one has been cast as the powerful dog of the Royal Family though. Most likely because, well, he's a 2000 pound dog that will most likely be CGI. In the comics, Lockjaw is able to teleport himself and anyone who is in contact with him. His ability doesn't seem to have a limit though, as he's transported people across dimensions without breaking a sweat (on the other hand, dogs don't sweat so there's that).

The Villains

Of course, no superhero project would be complete without adversaries, so, who is confirmed?

Iwan Rheon Is Maximus the Mad

Show's description of the character:

"Intelligent, charming, and articulate. He comes across as a man of the people but secretly covets power."

Maximus [Credit: Marvel Comics]

Maximus is Black Bolt's younger brother. Don't let his charming appearance and family connection fool you though. He is a cunning, treacherous and extremely powerful Inhuman. His abilities include a genius-level intellect, mental manipulation and even mental programming (meaning he can leave commands on his subjects' heads and make them carry them out any time he desires). Unfortunately for Black Bolt, his brother is extremely jealous of him and willing to do anything to prove he is the best between the two. Given all of his attributes, it's safe to say we're about to get the next Loki for the MCU.

Jeph Loeb praised and what he will bring to the role of Maximus, stating:

"Iwan's ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board."

  • Residue (2015)
