Netflix’s #TheDefenders is right around the corner. The series premieres this summer and details about the show's plot have already surfaced. While New York City will have four new defenders in 2017, the other side of Marvel #TV is already protecting Los Angeles, the unstoppable #AgentsOfSHIELD.
Today we are putting heroes against heroes to finally crown the best team in television. The Avengers may currently helm the title of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but it's possible that's about to change.
Calling Out The Teams
- The Defenders
- Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. team will consist of Quake, Yo-Yo, Director Jeffrey Mace, Agent Phil Coulson, Ghost Rider and Agent Melinda May.
This first round will be between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Defenders. The winning team will face the Avengers or the Guardians of the Galaxy in the last round.
1. Ghost Rider Vs. Iron Fist
We still haven't seen #IronFist and his abilities on Netflix, but based on the trailers it's a safe bet that he'll have similar attributes to his comic book counterpart. With powers ranging from mystical healing to superhuman strength, Iron Fist is one tough dragon who quite literally got his powers by defeating a dragon. He might be Marvel's One Punch Man, but #GhostRider is a force from Hell.
Robbie Reyes' version of the Ghost Rider is not as powerful as Johnny Blaze and while he is not able to fully control his demon within, we've already seen on #AgentsofSHIELD the power that the Rider possesses. He can survive getting impaled by carbon spikes, a collapsing building, and on top of that has superhuman strength and can catch anything on fire. I put these two mystical heroes against each other because of their extra-dimensional abilities and while Ghost Rider killed it on the first half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., I believe Iron Fist has the edge.
While Robbie Reyes relies on the Spirit of Vengeance to win a fight, Danny Rand/Iron Fist is an expert martial artist. Not only would Iron Fist have a strategy to defeat Ghost Rider, he's better trained and doesn't fight out of anger. Who do you think takes the win? Answer in the poll below:
Ghost Rider vs. Iron Fist
2. Quake Vs. Jessica Jones
#JessicaJones has superhuman strength and can leap incredible heights. In addition to her physical abilities she also has advanced mental control as she was able to block Kilgrave's mind control powers. She may be a street fighter with no coordinated fight moves, but her punches hurt like hell. (Just ask Luke Cage.)
On the other hand we have Daisy Johnson, a.k.a. Quake. An #Inhuman with the ability to create tremors, she has to wear special gauntlets since her powers affect her bones, causing fractures. She is an excellent hand-to-hand combat fighter trained by S.H.I.E.L.D. and has an incredible amount of experience in the field. She has fought aliens from other dimensions and super-powered individuals, but unlike Jones, Quake still suffers from the mind control of Hive. She has recovered, but Lincoln's death and her addiction to Hive still lingers in her head.
Because of her training and experience in the field I think #Quake will out-maneuver Jones and keep her distance. Even in close combat Quake can generate a punch with strength equal to Jessica Jones because of her tremor powers. Plus, Quake was able to break every bone of Hive's body without her gauntlets, so the same could happen to Jones. As much as I love Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, I have to give this victory to Quake. But who do you think takes the win? Answer in the poll below:
Quake vs. Jessica Jones
3. Jeffrey Mace Vs. Luke Cage
The director of S.H.I.E.L.D. may be new to the team of agents, but he is no rookie soldier. Nicknamed "The Patriot," on the show Mace is an artificial Inhuman who possesses superhuman strength and durability. When Agent May hit Mace's head with a metal pole, the director didn't even move and showed no sign of injury. In addition to his enhanced abilities the director is a trained agent with experience in the field.
Like Director Mace, #LukeCage has superhuman strength and durability. His most notable ability though is his impenetrable skin. While we haven't seen the extent of Jeffrey Mace's powers, we know that Cage is able to withstand and has immense physical strength. During his brawl with Diamondback, Cage was hit with so much force that Harlem's buildings were destroyed. We've also seen his powers tested when Jessica Jones blasted his head with a shotgun, leaving Cage with a concussion.
In addition to his abilities, Cage also has experience in hand-to-hand combat and the use of firearms. Before becoming a successful underground fighter in Seagate prison, he was a police officer.
Both heroes are super strong and have experience on the field, but I believe Luke Cage has the edge. In close combat Cage clearly has the upper hand. We saw what Cage did to Diamondback in Harlem, almost killing him, and from Director Mace's fight with Ghost Rider, Mace's chances with Cage are very slim. If Mace used a gun it would be useless due to Cage's skin. So, Power Man takes the W easily. What do you think though? Answer in the poll below:
Jeffrey Mace vs. Luke Cage
4. Agent May Vs. Daredevil
A saying around S.H.I.E.L.D. is to never make May angry. The Calvary might just be the toughest and most reliable agent in all of S.H.I.E.L.D. and to add to her already-badass resume, she also trained alongside #BlackWidow and even black belts in more martial arts than her. Let that sink in. A martial arts expert and master agent, Melinda May is one of the best S.H.I.E.L.D. has.
Across the ring we have Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil. Taught by Chaste leader Stick in the art of fighting without sight, recently Daredevil has become the savior of Hell's Kitchen. His inability to see with his eyes might be his biggest advantage and his will for justice is all the motivation he needs to put his opponents down.
Agent May has defeated Inhumans, beings from other dimensions and killer #Hydra agents. Daredevil has gone against crime lords, ninjas and dead ninjas. If these two master warriors ever faced each other, I believe Agent May has the edge. May has experience on her side and if this fight goes to the death, May wouldn't hesitate to finish the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. Who do you think takes the win? Answer in the poll below:
Agent May vs. Daredevil
5. Yo-Yo Vs. Elektra
Yo-Yo Rodriguez is an Inhuman who's fast, very fast. When captured on video by a security camera, in one frame she was moving at 180 meters per second, that's half the speed of sound! Her power is unique since when she runs, Yo-Yo snaps back to her last stable position, hence the name Yo-Yo. Before becoming a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent she was a vigilante in Colombia and after joining the team, she was trained by Daisy and formed part of the Secret Warriors initiative.
Elektra Natchios is a deadly assassin with a troubled past. Trained by Stick, it was foretold that she would become the Black Sky and lead The Hand, a clan of evil ninjas, to a new frontier. Elektra has years of experience as a trained killer and after Season 2 of #Daredevil will be stronger than ever as the mystical Black Sky.
This match-up is tough indeed. Elektra has the advantage with her skills and experience. Yo-Yo is a relatively new agent and is still learning the ways of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nonetheless, Yo-Yo's speed is her biggest asset and that alone could destabilize Elektra. However, Elektra is a master tactician, so after figuring out Yo-Yo's speed mechanism of snapping back to the same spot, she could devise a plan to defeat Yo-Yo.
For that reason, I believe Elektra has the edge and would undoubtedly kill Yo-Yo just for annoying her with running games. Who do you think wins? Answer in the poll below:
Yo-Yo vs. Elektra
6. Phil Coulson Vs. The Punisher
#ThePunisher is ruthless and he'll kill anyone who stands in his way. He is out for justice, but his definition of the word is a matter of life or death. A war veteran and hero, when he returned home his family was brutality murdered in front of his eyes. Seeking vengeance, the man known as Frank Castle became the the vigilante now called the Punisher.
Phil Coulson is one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top agents. After he met his death at the hands of Loki, he was resurrected and became the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Defeating Hydra and their false god Hive are just some of the feats this decorated agent has accomplished. When Agent Alphonso Mackenzie chopped off his hand, Agent Fitz created an artificial replacement for Coulson that not only replaced his lost limb, but also granted him new special abilities, like materializing a #CaptainAmerica shield. Coulson is a living cyborg, with so much Kree DNA that we should call him alien.
Out of all the match-ups this one is definitely the toughest one. Both Coulson and Punisher have experience on the field of combat and know how to use countless firearms. Both are skilled in hand-to-hand combat and both have shown ruthlessness when it was the only way to survive. I'm leaving this up to you. Who do you think wins between Coulson and the Punisher? Answer in the poll below:
Phil Coulson vs. The Punisher
Who's The Better Team?
Iron Fist defeated Ghost Rider. Quake defeated Jessica Jones. Luke Cage defeated Jeffrey Mace and Agent May defeated Daredevil. Elektra defeated Yo-Yo and we are still undecided between Agent Coulson and the Punisher. But these are just my predicted outcomes. What are yours?
