Pacific Rim 2 may hark back to events that happened before the first flick!
Max Martini, who plays veteran Jaeger pilot and master martial-artist Herc Hansen in Pacific Rim, has hinted that the second installment of 's mech vs. monster mash-up could actually be a prequel.
Speaking with Empire, the thesp revealed:
Working with Guillermo (del Toro) was a highlight, and the green-screen work was new to me... It's funny, I fell in love with this character (Herc Hansen). The key component was this relationship I had with my son, exploring the dysfunction and the loss, so where does Herc go from here? I don't know. It'll be interesting to see where Guillermo (del Toro) and Travis Beacham take it. I don't know if it's a prequel or a sequel, but if it's a prequel you'll learn more about Herc's family history. But Guillermo has such a vivid imagination, it could go anywhere.
Del Toro is currently working on the screenplay for Pacific Rim 2 with , who also co-wrote the first movie. So, could the next Pacific Rim installment actually be an adaptation of the prequel graphic novel from Beacham, Tales From Year Zero? The prequel, which Beacham released in June, wasn't entirely fleshed-out, but it did fill in some colorful details that add some major background to Pacific Rim the movie...
Personally, I'm looking forward to any kind of Pacific Rim 2. Sure, the first one was cheesy as hell, but - damn! It was good fun to watch. What do you guys think? Prequel? Sequel? Absolutely no more mech vs. monster mash-up thank you please?
