There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who love Rick and Morty, and those who haven't seen it it. If you're in the first group, then like many of us, you've developed a crazy Szechuan McNugget sauce craving since the Season 3 premiere, and you probably don't even know what is tastes like! That said, I understand. It's a deep and sudden longing that we all now share together.
And it's a longing that's taken the internet by storm!
'I Want That McNugget Sauce, Morty!'
If you haven't seen it four times yet, allow me to explain. During the season premiere episode, Rick goes off on a crazy rant about how badly he wants more of the limited edition #McDonalds McNugget sauce, and this rant alone has led fans to rally together in an effort to pressure McDonald's into bringing back the sweet, brown, gooey goodness.
The Szechuan dipping sauce was released in conjunction with the 1998 #Disney classic Mulan as a promotional product. The sauce was eventually discontinued, but now passionate fans of Rick and Morty are calling for McDonald's to bring back the Mulan sauce, and finally satisfy Rick's demands! Demands that Golden Arches has heard, loud and clear.
Who are these tweets from and why should we care? Great questions! While engaged in a Twitter conversation about the world's need for more tasty, delicious Szechaun sauce, Business Insider's Ashley Lutz was approached by Mike Haracz, a corporate chef for McDonald's. Rather than a flat-out denial or shutdown, Haracz has unintentionally given hope to millions of McNugget nuts around the globe with six short, but Szechauny words (I might just also name my first son after him).
Just in case you forgot what this article was about, here's a refresher:
The Hunger Is Real
Following the new episode, an online petition calling for McDonald's to bring back the sauce has received tremendous support, and currently has 20,000 signatures — the majority of them gained within the past two days.
The petition eventually caught the eye of Rick and Morty producers, who shared it to their Twitter page, asking McDonald's if it felt like signing it, too. The producers then received the most incredible response they could have hoped for:
When Could We Taste It Again?
Seeing as a live-action remake of #Mulan is in the works for a 2018 release, could it be possible for McDonald's to bring back the now-famous Szechuan dipping sauce? While McD and the Rick and Morty creators are on board, to truly bring this tangy gravy back, we'd also need the participation of Disney. While the chance that the House of Mouse would want to associate itself with the Adult Swim hit — and very family unfriendly — show are slim, there's nothing that rules out the sauce being rebranded specifically for Rick and Morty.
So with all that's happened in just a few short days, could a "McNugga Lubba" sauce be on the way? Only time will tell, but if you're truly desperate to get your hands on it right now, you could always grab your trusty Portal Gun and jump to a reality that still sells the sauce! Just bring some back for everyone else, OK?
Look out for Rick and Morty, Season 3, Episode 2 coming to Adult Swim in 2017. Should McDonald's bring back the Mulan Szechuan Dipping Sauce? What do you think it tastes like? Let me know in the comments below.
