Part of the fun of a cinematic universe is the possibility of having characters from within the universe appearing in different films. Captain America: Civil War is a prime example of this, with the MCU bringing in characters from the larger universe into a character's solo movie. Now, it looks like Thor: Ragnarok is going to follow suit. Fans can’t wait to feast their eyes on the latest MCU film and a recent report about a surprise cameo from an Avenger in Thor: Ragnarok has only made fans more excited for its release.

Note: Mild spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok to follow.

We already knew that Doctor Strange and Bruce Banner were going to appear in , but they we can now confirm that they won't be the only heroes making an appearance in Thor’s final solo film. Thanks to a report from We Got This Covered, it was revealed that Black Widow will also make an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok, which will no doubt help continue her and Bruce's journey that began in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

According to We Got This Covered, ’s appearance in Thor: Ragnarok is brief, but the moment is an extremely important part of Bruce's journey. While attempting to escape Sakaar, Hulk and Thor find the S.H.I.E.L.D. Quinjet that Hulk used to leave Earth at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it hasn’t been activated since Hulk arrived on the planet two years prior.

It's worth noting that during his time on Sakaar, Hulk never transformed back into Bruce, which explains why the giant green rage monster now has the vocabulary of a 2-year-old. Once Hulk and Thor board the Quinjet, they activate the dash and the pre-recorded message from Black Widow (which we saw at the end of Age of Ultron) begins to play. The message reads as follows:

“Nice work, big guy. We don’t know where Ultron’s headed, but you’re going very high very fast so I need you to turn this bird around, ok? We can’t track you in stealth mode, so… I need you to help me out, ok?”

This is the extent of Black Widow's cameo in Thor: Ragnarok, but it’s an impactful moment for Bruce. Upon seeing Black Widow, immediately feels a sense of calm and transforms back into Bruce. Once Hulk becomes Bruce for the first time in two years, the first words out of his mouth are, "How's Nat?"

Black Widow's 'Thor: Ragnarok' Cameo Is Important

This one moment with Black Widow reminds fans that the MCU hasn't forgotten about the relationship between Natasha and Bruce, and it also sets up what their relationship might be moving forward. The fact that Banner has been stuck in his Hulk form for two years, but his first question once he returns to his human form is about Natasha speaks to how much he cares for her while also bringing a lot more weight to their romance that began in Age of Ultron.

Until now, it seemed like had abandoned the Bruce/Natasha romance, but that was basically because the Hulk was gone. Kevin Feige recently revealed that Thor: Ragnarok is the first step in a Hulk/Banner arc that will take place over three films, and it appears that Black Widow will play a big part in his story.

We don’t know exactly what will happen between the two characters, but this brief moment in Thor: Ragnarok definitely has us excited for what their future might be. Hopefully, Marvel will continue the Bruce/Natasha romance in a meaningful way that helps enrich both characters and lends legitimacy to a relationship that initially seemed like it was discarded as quickly as it was introduced.

We don’t know what future holds for Hulk after Thor: Ragnarok, but given how well the film was received, it looks like the first part of the character’s journey was executed flawlessly. Whatever the case, we can’t wait to see Hulk smash — and anything else that gets in his way — in Thor: Ragnarok, which promises to be another giant success from Marvel Studios.
