The Justice League won't assemble on the big screen until November, but the film's merchandise is already making the rounds. While Wonder Woman, Batman and team have received an abundance of collectibles, Mera will apparently receive her fair share, as well. The Queen of Atlantis, played by Amber Heard, will make her first cinematic splash in Justice League before her lead role in next year's Aquaman.
Since Mera will only have a small role in #JusticeLeague, it's surprising that she is part of the merchandise from the start. Not only is this a sign of Mera's growing recognition, but it also demonstrates how heroines are no longer being excluded from merchandise.
Over the years, female characters have been noticeably absent from movie toy lines. This inspired fans to advocate for change online, creating popular hashtags such as #WheresBlackWidow and #WheresGamora. But it looks like those days are behind us, as toy companies are finally making progress on inclusion. Batman v Superman prominently featured #WonderWoman in both merchandise and promotional content. More recently, Diana's solo film gave other Amazons a chance to shine in the toy department. Hippolyta, Antiope and Menalippe received multiple dolls and/or action figures, even though they weren't main characters. And thankfully, Justice League is following suit with Mera.
From Funko Pops to Barbies, let's take a look at how you can start building your Mera collection.
1. Mera's Very Own Barbie Doll
Barbie has already experienced most occupations, but now she gets to be the Queen of Atlantis! Mera's signature movie gear looks just as royal in this form, and the doll even looks similar to Heard herself. Mera's Barbie, which will be released this fall, is set to come with several accessories that reflect her on-screen presence.
2. A Powerful Action Figure
This DC Multiverse action figure is not only true to character, but also showcases one of Mera's unique powers. Besides aquakinesis and super strength, Mera can form "hard water." With that power, she can use volumes of water to construct objects and weapons. We haven't seen her abilities come to life in any JL trailers yet, but this figure gives us a hint of what's to come. It will be available on November 15, just two days before the movie opens in theaters.
3. Exclusive Funko Pop
Any collection wouldn't be complete without a Funko Pop. Mera's figure was recently released as a Hot Topic exclusive, which you can find online and in store. I own one myself, and the details on her suit are incredible. The photo above doesn't do this Pop justice!
4. Adorable Cosbaby Form
Hot Toys is known for their movie-accurate statues, but they also have a line of anime-like, chibi-style figures called Cosbabies. With a wave attached to her feet, this adorable version of Mera looks like she's in the middle of a swim. Cosbaby figures typically come with accessories, so we can expect that Mera's will too. This one is set for release later in the year, estimated for a December arrival.
5. Funko Mystery Mini
Likely the toughest Mera merch to find is her Funko Mystery Mini. This line comes in a blind bag, so you might not get this character on your first try. But with their cuteness and affordable price, trying to collect every character is worth it. The Justice League Mystery Minis are available now wherever Funko toys are sold.
It's important that heroines are finally getting the recognition they deserve both on and off-screen. This is only the beginning of Mera's increase in merchandise. Having a lead role in #Aquaman means that she'll have even more collectibles in the future. I guess it's time to start saving up.
Justice League will be in theaters on November 17.
