Ever since Deadpool hit theaters, we've been longing for a crossover between Ryan Reynold's comic-accurate Merc with a Mouth and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Unfortunately for us hopeful fans, as time went by, said mashup seemed unlikely... until last month.
Collider reported that a small "surprise" had been added at the beginning of Logan. While no specifics were given about it, it was easy to assume it had something to do with everyone's favorite small-handed mercenary...and we were right.
Logan just hit theaters, and not only did we get an amazing movie out of it, but also our first teaser for Deadpool 2. That's right, put a cushion on the floor right below your chin, because your jaw is about to drop with the return of the love child of two avocados with a significant age gap:
The scene opens with an armed robber confronting a grocery-toting man, trying to shake him down for the contents of his wallet, when Wade Wilson walks by. Not one to shy away from delivering justice with a swift kick to the nuts, Wade rushes to a nearby phone booth to ditch his street clothes for his more appropriate, crime-fighting Deadpool suit.
As the Superman theme crescendos, we see how difficult it is to actually perform a superhero costume swap in a cramped phone booth. What took Clark Kent mere moments to pull off takes Deadpool more than a few hilariously agonizing seconds, punctuated by a loud gunshot — crap. Deadpool heroically emerges from the phone booth and is greeted by Stan Lee, who gives him pointers for his superhero outfit. Wade Wilson wasn't so kind, as he told The Man himself to "Zip it".
Anyway, it's too late — the gunman is gone and his victim is dead, the groceries strewn about the dirty alleyway. Deadpool then proceeds to offer his condolences and comment on how tragically gross the whole situation is before laying down on top of the man's bleeding corpse and enjoying an ice cream for his attempted effort.
There are a few easter eggs to note in this teaser. For starters, if you look closely at the phone booth, the phrase:
"Nathan Summers Coming Soon!"
Nathan Summers is Cable's real name, who we know will appear in Deadpool's next adventure.
The clip gave us Deadpool's signature mockery of the comic book genre with Wade's poor attempt at imitating the Man of Steel. In the first film, there were very few aspects of the character to really call him an antihero. He was essentially a good guy with a foul mouth, but this teaser tells us that Deadpool 2 will explore Wade Wilson's care-free side. I mean, the guy goes through the groceries of a man he failed to save because his zipper got stuck — how does it get any more Deadpool than that?

It's worthy to note that this is also our first look at Stan Lee's cameo. As we've come to expect from the man and his brief appearances, it's hilarious, as he confuses Deadpool with Ryan Gosling.
After all that awesomeness, the footage sadly comes to an end, but not before stating what we've been thinking for the past year: Deadpool 2 can't come soon enough.
Granted, this isn't at all the crossover we were expecting — come to think of it, it wasn't even a crossover, but it is an incredible teaser. If you can't wait to see Wade Wilson return to the big screen, don't worry; as we learned from some recent evidence, it's coming sooner than we thought.
