In what's either sad news or news to be indifferent about, depending upon how you feel about the matter, veteran actor and actress have announced they are splitting after 13 years of marriage.
The couple has been married since 2000 after meeting two years prior to that in France. They have two children together, Dylan, who is 13, and Carys, who is 10.
It's unclear why the couple has decided to "take time apart" to "evaluate and work on their marriage", as the actress's publicist told the BBC, but all indications are that the health problems, both physical and mental, the couple has been burdened with over the past few years have taken their toll on the marriage. Douglas had undergone treatment for throat cancer starting in 2010, while Zeta-Jones admitted to biopolar disorder and sought treatment for it in 2011, and then again a year later.
However, earlier this month, Douglas had nothing but glowing things to say about his wife, claiming Zeta-Jones had given him a "second chance to have a family."
The thing I've learned about getting older is you can't take love for granted. You protect it, nurture it and it grows and after one's initial, physical emotional aspects, it becomes deeper.
Hopefully, this is indeed a temporary break and not a permanent split.
