Recently, intensely talented actor stepped into the role of Macbeth in a gritty, dystopian reimagining of the classic Shakespearean tragedy for London's West End. He was so good that he was nominated for a prestigious Olivier Award, and garnered rave reviews for his performance.

Now, is saying to his X-Men: Days Of Future Past counterpart and future foe, anything you can do, I can do better. Fassbender is attached to star in a big screen remake of Macbeth to be directed by , reports ScreenDaily. The script, penned by and , is one of the most in-demand in the lead-up to Cannes next month, with several outfits vying for the right to sell it.

The script is apparently visceral and bloody, fitting the 11th-century setting and original dialogue that will remain intact. Macbeth tells the story of a ruthless Scottish lord and his conniving wife, who murder the king in a scheme to seize the throne, along with the help of three witches. No word yet on who might be cast in the role of Lady Macbeth, but at least one Hollywood A-lister is in talks for the role. I'm just gonna go ahead and tell them to give it to , because she's basically already playing the same character on Game of Thrones except a bit less ruthless.

I am excited about this one. This may be the English lit nerd in me surfacing (Get your Masters in lit, kids, and you, too, can write about Michael Fassbender for a living), but Macbeth has always been one of my favorite of Shakespeare's works, with fascinating and complex character development and some of the best and most iconic lines from Shakespeare. I'm eager to see what Fassbender will do with the role. If you're like me, and curious to learn who will be cast in the role of Lady Macbeth, [[follow]] away and as soon as we know, you'll know.

UPDATE: ScreenDaily is now reporting that actress has signed on to star opposite Fassbender as Lady Macbeth, so there go my dreams of Lena Headey going all Lannister on medieval Scotland.
