Recently, the Oscar-nominated sat down and chatted with IAmRogue about his new movie, The Iceman. Naturally, the conversation soon turned to his role as General Zod in the upcoming Man of Steel and how he feels about his character.

What he said in the slightly rambling response was somewhat surprising, including that he thinks of Zod as "a patriot" and not necessarily a bad guy:

Interesting. It's certainly a slightly different take than what we have been expecting, but one that should give fans hope that Zod's character will be portrayed with more depth and nuance than many comic book movie villains have.

Pretty sure that somewhere, there's a political group that will somehow be offended by Shannon's answer. But until that happens, we can have fun counting down the days until Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14th.
