If there is one thing Missy does best, it's playing games with the Doctor, and it now seems that Michelle Gomez might be playing similar tricks on us fans. Gomez recently confirmed that she would be leaving #DoctorWho alongside departing showrunner Steven Moffat and fellow Time Lord Peter Capaldi at the end of 10th season of the BBC One series.
Fans have speculated that this may be because incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall might want to rest the character, or cast his own Master for his Doctor. But Gomez seems to have made her decision based on the other departures from the series, telling RadioTimes:
“It’s the end of a chapter. ... Everybody’s leaving, so I’m going too. I mean, what would I do without Peter and Steven? Who would I be?”
But Gomez has now only gone and thrown a spanner in the works, and it's no longer clear if she is leaving after all.
"Never believe what you read," she writes. So should we believe this? With John Simm returning to the role of the Master after a seven-year absence, perhaps Gomez is just planning on taking a break from the part. After all, there's only so many times you can attempt to kill the Doctor and take over the universe before you need a little R & R.
You can catch Michelle Gomez as Missy, queen of evil, in the next episode of Doctor Who, "Extremis," airing Saturday, May 20, on BBC America. Tell us in the comments section what you think will happen with the Missy character.
