#MileyCyrus has built a reputation as a singer who isn't afraid to get the crowd's attention with provocative antics, but it seems like that may be coming to an end. She recently expressed regret over the controversial video for her hit single "Wrecking Ball":
"Once you do that, it's forever. I'm never living that down. I will always be the naked girl on a wrecking ball."
With her recent emotional performance of her new single, "Malibu," at the Billboard Music Awards, it seems Miley really is turning over a new leaf. She became emotional during the performance, even tearing up at one point:
The song's lyrics hint at Miley's new direction ("I wanna thank you with all of my heart ... it's a brand new start, a dream come true, in Malibu") and the journey she will be taking from here on in. And her new song choices are not the only changes Miley is making. She recently told Billboard:
"The fact that country music fans are scared of me, that hurts me. All the nipple pastie shit, that’s what I did because I felt it was part of my political movement, and that got me to where I am now. I’m evolving, and I surround myself with smart people that are evolved."
It's no big surprise that Miley's father, Billy Ray Cyrus, is excited about his daughter's new direction, also telling Billboard: "This is Miley leaning into her roots more than I’ve ever heard. For her, this is honest.”
With an upcoming marriage to Liam Hemsworth, whom "Malibu" is about, it's no surprise that Miley would get emotional singing it. Many of her fans have responded positively the song, and the music video already has more than 72.5 million views on YouTube. Watch it below:
