As The Flash heads into its fourth season, all eyes are on the brand new Big Bad: Clifford DeVoe a.k.a. The Thinker. After the character's name popped up multiple times during the latter half of Season 3, it was reported last month that DeVoe was indeed coming to Central City for Season 4.
Despite the showrunners' mysterious silence on the matter, there's now more evidence to prove that The Thinker is going to be running wild next season, as a certain #GameOfThrones actor auditioned for the role of the Big Bad.
At Nashville's recent Con Of Thrones spotlight panel, actor Miltos Yerolemou (who played sword master Syrio Forel on GOT) revealed that he auditioned for the role of The Flash's Season 4 Big Bad. A fan who attended the event alerted ComicBook.com that he:
"...read to be The Flash's next 'Big Bad' and the tagline was something along of the lines of 'The Fastest Man Alive vs. The Fastest Brain Alive."
However, Yerolemou then went on to admit that he didn't feel he was right for the role, commenting how the new Big Bad was a "fast talker" and "really smart." He revealed that he was given:
"three pages of random Roman trivia to memorize and spit back out."
So, if you weren't convinced before, it's looking more and more like DeVoe is in fact the Big Bad of The Flash Season 4.
Outside The Box
For the show's first three seasons, Central City has been plagued by diabolical speedsters. First we had the Reverse-Flash, then we had the terrifying Zoom, and finally we had the self-proclaimed God of Speed known as Savitar. But the Thinker's impending arrival not only proves that the creative team are looking for a new type of villain, but that they're also casting outside the box.
Yerolemou is well-known for his role as Forel in the first season of Game Of Thrones and his recollection of his Flash audition suggests that the show's new Big Bad must also be very knowledgeable — a trait that the comic version of DeVoe was renowned for. He would bring a refreshingly different approach to the show, especially compared to its previous villains.
While the fact that he admitted he didn't think he was right for the role does say a lot about his commitment as an actor, he definitely would have been an interesting choice for the villain. He was quick with a sword on Game Of Thrones, so it would have been interesting to see him be equally as quick with his mind on The Flash. But it was not to be.
However, it does seem to confirm that The Thinker is coming. And we look forward to finding out who will be the lucky actor to bring the villain to life.
