Now, while #MischaBarton's iconic character on #TheOC, Marissa Cooper, may have had a gift for bringing ratings-swelling misfortune down upon herself, it seems that Barton's life away from the long-since cancelled show has opted to bring much the same sort of disarray her way, irrespective of her own actions.
Barton, y'see, is currently fighting against the possible sale of a sex tape on which she appears, which is — according to notorious right-wing muckraking specialty site The Daily Mail — being shopped around for upwards of $500,000. What makes that all the more troubling, of course, is that:
According To Barton, That Sex Tape Was Filmed Without Her Consent
Indeed, as she put it in a recent press conference:
"This is a painful situation and my absolute worst fear was realized when I learned that someone I thought I loved and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments, without my consent with a hidden camera."
Which, of course, is an absolutely horrifying thing to have happen to you, something that is reflected by Barton's lawyer noting that "we consider this to be a form of domestic abuse," as well as Barton's pointed reminder that:
"No woman should have to go through this."
With Barton having reported the situation to the police, as well as having sought a court order to protect her from the man in question, it seems that the situation is still set to develop further — albeit most likely somewhat out of the public eye. Which, considering that the whole goal of all of this is to keep a very particular video away from public consumption, may well be for the best.
What do you think, though? What would you do if you were in Barton's place? Let us know below!
