Nicolas Cage is an Academy Award-winning actor who is today best known for blowing his $150 million fortune on European castles, a private island, a haunted mansion, a vintage copy of Action Comics #1 and a dinosaur skull, all of which forced him to take a decade's worth of less-than-desirable (yet internet-beloved) film roles. Hey, who among us wouldn't go a little overboard with that kind of cash?
Fortunately, Cage is poised to make a comeback in horror comedy Mom and Dad, which premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and has earned the actor his best reviews in years. He plays a father who — along with his wife (Selma Blair) and every other parent in town — suddenly feels compelled to murder his own children for 24 hours; it's like a suburban zombie version of The Shining. Check out the new trailer below:
Critics love the indie horror flick (it's at 85 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes), which apparently lets Nicolas Cage go full Nicolas Cage with a smart, subversive script from director Brian Taylor. The trailer probably gives away a big grandparental twist, but this still looks like a ton of fun for the whole family ... minus the kids.
Mom and Dad opens on January 19, 2018.
