As 2016 is drawing to a close, it's time to take a look at what the new year has in store for us moviegoers. Here are 12 movies, one from each month of the year, that are sure to make a splash at the box office:

1. January: 'Split'

Release Date: January 20th, 2017

The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan returns with a supernatural thriller starring James McAvoy. Kevin has several personalities, one of which wants to cause trouble by kidnapping three teenage girls. Suspenseful. Ambitious. A must-see.

"McAvoy is absolutely terrific and impressively committed with a performance that entertains and excites in equal measure." — Rob Hunter

Playing several different characters must be a challenge, but if the trailer is anything to go by, this will no doubt be one of McAvoy's best performances.

Furious 7 was a huge hit at the box office but part of that was because we lost the beloved Paul Walker. It will be interesting to see if this film comes close to what its predecessor did. I really hope it does just as well and people give it a chance.

5. May: 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2'

Release Date: May 5th, 2017

Guardians Of The Galaxy was a huge box office success back in 2014, so how will the prequel fare?

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. There is no doubt that this film is going to be just as funny (if not even funnier) than the first one. Groot is just so cute that you have to see this film.
