His last movie District 9 mixed social commentary with fantasy, but can Elysium, 's new sci-fi epic, retain the grit? Let's hope so, because the movie has just gotten even bigger.

According to /Film, Elysium has just got itself an official IMAX release, so you can expect to see the movie in specialist theaters from August 9. From the trailers we've seen so far, the huge scope of IMAX could be an even more awesome way to see the staggering scenery of Elysium, especially those bits that were shot in a Mexican rubbish dump.

Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment commented that:

Neill Blomkamp is the kind of innovative, creative storyteller that moviegoers seek out, and we are thrilled to bring this highly anticipated film to IMAX audiences worldwide.

And Sony's Rory Bruer added:

Elysium is one of the most highly anticipated films of the summer, so we're pleased that audiences will have the chance to see Neill Blomkamp's vision for the future in IMAX's immersive format.

Personally, I'm glad it's in IMAX and not IMAX 3D. Some directors still have their integrity, thank God. Are you pumped for Elysium's release? District 9 kind of blew my mind, so really I have no choice but to see this.
