In the next step on their path towards world domination, Netflix is conquering the merchandise world. Yes you read that right: in a recent job listing posted by Netflix, it states they're looking for a "Senior Manager, Licensing, Merchandising and Promotion" person. This job is said to include: the overseeing of the licensing of shows for books, comics and toys, and forging partnerships with retailers. This news is huge, primarily because the Netflix Originals have virtually unlimited potential in the world of comics, toys and merchandise!
So far, Netflix has already tested their merchandise in the popular store Hot Topic, where they sold Stranger Things inspired t-shirts, mugs, caps and jewellery. This test must've proved to be a hit, seeing as they're continuing their push for globally expanding their marketing for their shows. A Netflix spokesperson had this to say:
"We are pursuing consumer products and associated promotion because we believe it will drive meaningful show awareness/buzz with more tangible, curated ways to interact with our most popular content"
What Products Would We Like To See?
Daredevil is undoubtedly one of Netflix's best shows, praised widely by both comic-book fans and critics alike. There's an endless amount of merchandise we could see for this show — I mean, how cool would an officially licensed Daredevil costume be?! Of course it would have to include the weapons, and I'm sure it would be expensive, but I'd be first in line to snatch it up. As well as that, we could see some awesome Matt Murdock shades, plucked straight from the #TV show.
2. 'Stranger Things'
Out of all of the shows on Netflix, I think Stranger Things is the show with the most potential for awesome merchandise. This series is packed to the brim with '80s nostalgia and a love for all things nerdy, so it makes sense to have bad-ass merch. There's so many things you could do: you could have custom Stranger Things Dungeons and Dragons dice, you could sell Dustin's iconic hat (above) or even a Stranger Things themed Monopoly game! Given Stranger Things' nerdy overtones, a Stranger Things comic would also make perfect sense. It's pretty much certain we're also going to see figures for each of these characters, and they'll probably be Netflix's biggest seller. I can already tell it's going to be hard to try and keep them in their box!
3. 'Orange is The New Black'
Another crazy-popular show on #Netflix right now is the prison comedy/drama Orange is The New Black. This hilarious & heartfelt look at the inside of an all-female prison is one of the most original programmes online right now, and I can't wait to see what type of merch we get! Things like figures, tees and mugs are all a given, but another thing that could be awesome would be transferrable tattoos, so we can all look like our favorite characters from the show!

4. 'House of Cards'
It's perhaps a slightly more niche choice, but House of Cards merch could also be a big hit. I'd love to see some Frank Underwood propaganda as if he were running for President in real life, like pens, flags, caps, etc. A range of watches and tie pins would be fantastic too, and would showcase his slick style. Most of all, I'd love to see action figures for the show. I need to have mini Frank and Claire Underwoods on my desk!
5. 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt'
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is probably Netflix's quirkiest show, and so that means the potential for merch is endless. I'd love to see some Kimmy Schmidt-inspired outfits, and they definitely have to bring out some Kimmy Schmidt motivational posters. Season 3 for this show is still a while away yet, but that doesn't mean we can't get hyped for her merch!
6. 'Master of None'
Master of None is another great comedy to come from Netflix, starring and created by Aziz Ansari. This show doesn't have as much potential as the rest on this list for merch, but a figure of Aziz Ansari would be the first thing I'd buy the day the merchandise comes out. Especially if he says some of his best lines when you press a button! A personalised drink recipe book, or pasta recipe book, would also be brilliant.
These six shows are primed for merch, but they're certainly not the only ones. With a huge catalogue of Originals, merchandise presents a huge opportunity for both Netflix and for us fans. We're not sure how long it'll be until Netflix toys and comics hit the shelves, but if they do it right, Netflix could end up in the global position #Disney is in with its endless merch!
