The Season 7 premiere of American Horror Story is fast approaching, and series creator Ryan Murphy is providing more key plot details. The number of reveals for Cult has far exceeded the nonexistent details presented ahead of last year's Roanoke.

We know that the season takes place in the aftermath of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, but rather than focus on politics — as some fans first thought — Murphy has explained the theme will be more about the divisiveness of the results, and how it relates to a cult mentality:

“Yes, the jumping-off point of the show is election night, and the characters have very strong points of view about Trump and Clinton, but it really is not about them. It really is about the rise of a cult of personality that can rise in a divided society.”

along with FX network chief John Landgraf recently did a panel for the upcoming season of and provided some very interesting details concerning the characters and this season's theme.

Evan Peters Is Portraying Six Different Cult Leaders

Much to fans' excitement, we heard a long time ago that Evan Peters is playing a lead role in the season as cult leader Kai Anderson. Now Murphy has shared that Peters will also be playing a notable selection of other characters throughout the season, including other well-known cult leaders of some sort. The names that were mentioned include Charles Manson, Jim Jones, David Koresh, and Andy Warhol, but expect others to make an appearance.

Murphy added that he always wanted to do a season based on Manson, but since that idea has been done before, he decided to expand on the idea of cults from a larger perspective.

Lena Dunham Plays Valerie Solanas

The casting choice to add Lena Dunham resulted in a bit of controversy, but we now have more details regarding the actress's role. Dunham will be appearing in episode seven as Valerie Solanas, the woman who attempts to kill Andy Warhol. The episode, appropriately titled "Valerie Solanas Died For Your Sins, Scumbag," is said to be about "female rage then and in the country now."

Emma Roberts And Adina Porter Will Battle It Out

alums Emma Roberts and Adina Porter will be making appearances this season as Michigan newscasters but there will undoubtedly be some tension among the two. Roberts plays Serina Belinda and will be promoted over Porter's character, Beverly Hope.

Billy Eichner Brings The Bees

If you were wondering why bees were so prominent during the early promos, it probably has something to do with Sarah Paulson's character and various phobias. We can now assume that actual bees will be integrated into the season somehow as Billy Eichner plays a beekeeper. As Murphy explains the significance, "Bees are the original cult.”

Ryan Murphy Has Hope For A Jessica Lange Return

The best news bit that came out of the panel surrounded on Murphy's comments on a possible return. Lange hasn't made an appearance since Season 4's Freak Show, but the actress remains one of the most popular figures involved in the series. The fact that Murphy and Lange recently worked together on Feud: Bette and Joan hints that another American Horror Story stint is certainly not out of the question. Murphy also shared that he hopes that Kathy Bates will make an appearance later this season.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this season plays out as it won't rely on any supernatural elements (similar to Freak Show). American Horror Story: Cult premieres September 5th on FX.
