No matter your feelings on 's Hobbit franchise thus far, whether you find they measure up to his Lord of the Rings films or not, one thing that cannot be denied is that the movies again feature multitudes of gorgeous production design. A new book has been released that catalogs much of the pre-production artwork from the latest installment The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The book, as reviewed by Mania.com, is called The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Chronicles--Art & Design. A mouthful of a title perhaps, but indicative of the bountiful array of full color paintings detailing various sets, costumes, weaponry, creature design and more. For those with a passion for production design and film art, this is a must-have.

Check out some of the images from the book below and let us know what you think.
