Now, with much of 2016 having been dominated by the sort of grim, hope-stomping news from which no joy can escape, it's perhaps a little surprising that the year also offered up , precisely the sort of exercise-inducing, grin-prompting nostalgia fest that 2016 was supposed to be incapable of producing. Of course, it might also lead to totalitarianism, but that's presumably more of a worry for future us.

While we wait for 2018's seemingly inevitable descent into a John Carpenter movie-like dystopia, however, it's reassuring to know that 's cheerful presence will lighten whatever horrifying gloom this year may bring in the meantime. After all, the latest Pokemon movie, is very much on its way, it seems.

It is, however, worth noting that:

This New 'Pokemon: I Choose You' Trailer Is Strangely Familiar

Which, of course, makes a whole lot of sense, seeing as the new movie — set to hit Japanese movie theaters on July 15 — is essentially a slick remake of the original cartoon series' opening episodes.

As such, the above is largely made up of slightly prettier versions of things we already saw back in the original series, which is the sort of thing that will likely divide fans into two opposing camps. For some, the idea of remaking the first few episodes of the beloved series will surely seem like a massive waste of time (especially since the first series is available on Netflix right now). For others, that's exactly the sort of nerd-tastic slice of that is needed to survive the glum, dispiriting landscape of modern life.

Of course, you'll have to make up your own mind up about that. Though, if you don't speak Japanese, it may well not be an issue for a while: The film doesn't yet have a release date in the US.

What do you think, though? Are you super excited to see Pokemon: I Choose You? Let us know below!
