It's time to get excited, because some Marvel casting news just arrived. There's a big question mark right now on whether the TV and big screen sides of the MCU are actually connected, but while we wait for a clear answer, the small screen is expanding rapidly. Marvel is working with Freeform on Cloak & Dagger, The Runaways and New Warriors. The latter will bring the much clamored-for Squirrel Girl to life, alongside a team of young heroes looking to do good with their extraordinary abilities.

Aside from the character lineup announcement we got a few months ago, the show has been fairly quiet. Fortunately things are picking back up because, you guys, we finally know who's playing . And no, it isn't Anna Kendrick, but this actress is just as awesome...

Today, Marvel announced that will be playing Doreen Green, better known in the superhero community as the adorable, yet butt-kicking Squirrel Girl. The actress started her acting career with several YouTube projects, but she gained fame in 2013 by playing the part of Lily Adams in a series of AT&T's commercials that went viral. Following that, she's made appearances in shows like Love, Key & Peele and most prominently in , where she plays Sloane Sandburg.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vayntrub beat out Shannon Purser (Stranger Things) and Mae Withman (Parenthood).

This, my fellow geeks, is an example of great casting on Marvel's part. Aside from the fact that she's a self-described nerd, just watching a few interviews with her — and you know, her commercials — will make you realize just how hilarious she is. That comedic nature is something that Doreen Green needs to have. But the excitement for the show doesn't end there.

We Also Have Our Full 'New Warriors' Line-Up

Squirrel Girl is not the only tights-user we got today; we have the rest of the superhero team:

  • Jeremy Tardy is Dwayne Taylor, a.k.a. Night Thrasher
  • Calum Worthy is Robbie Baldwin, a.k.a. Speedball
  • Matthew Moys Is Zack Smith, a.k.a. Microbe
  • Kate Comer is Deborah Fields, a.k.a. Debrii
  • Derek Theler Is Craig Hollis, a.k.a. Mister Immortal

Of this impressive cast of actors, the series' showrunner, Kevin Biegel, had this to say:

"I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors. They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters. It'll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them."

Superhero roles are particularly hard to cast because there's a pre-conceived notion about them from comic book fans. But looking at these actors –– especially Vayntrub –– it's easy to see Marvel's nailed the casting of its heroes once again. If you can't wait to see how the 's newest heroes turn out, the show will have a 10-episode first season which is expected to premiere on Freeform sometime in 2018.

What do you think about the Squirrel Girl casting? Are you happy with it or would you have liked someone else? How do you feel about the rest of the New Warriors? Let me know in the comments!
