The nominations for the 2014 Independent Spirit Awards are out and Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave leads the way with seven nods. Among the awards that the movie is up for include nominations for Best Feature, Best Director and Best Screenplay. and also received nominations for Best Male Lead and Best Supporting Male respectively.

The FINDIEs, as they're also known, are dedicated to the achievements of indie filmmakers and have been running since 1984.

If 12 Years a Slave is to walk away with the top prize for Best Feature, it'll have to beat off some stiff competition from All Is Lost, Frances Ha, Inside Llewyn Davis and Nebraska.

The ceremony will be held March 1st in Santa Monica.
