In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Norman Reedus talked about the upcoming Season 7 finale of The Walking Dead. Reedus first spoke of his reaction to reading the script for the season finale, but his comments towards the conclusion of the interview were far more interesting. When asked how the Season 7 finale would differ from past seasons, Norman Reedus had this to say:

"It’s completely different than all the other ones. It has similar elements, but it’s completely different, and, you know, there might be a little William Wallace in it."

Reedus's namedrop of William Wallace is a reference to the 1995 film, Braveheart. The movie followed Scottish hero William Wallace as he fight to the death for his freedom. The reason why Reedus mentions Wallace likely has to do with the similarities between Wallace's mission in Braveheart and the current goals of the central characters on .

How Will 'Braveheart' Influence The Season 7 Finale Of 'The Walking Dead'?

For those unfamiliar, Braveheart was a movie all about fighting for one's freedom. The main protagonist, William Wallace, even gave up his life fighting for that freedom. So, pairing the premise of Braveheart with what Reedus had to say in regards to the upcoming finale, his comments were probably meant to emphasize how his character Daryl and the rest of his group fighting for their freedom would be akin to William Wallace fighting for his freedom in Braveheart.

That said, Reedus's reference to Braveheart could also be a hint towards an upcoming battle on The Walking Dead. There was already a tease of Rick's group marching to battle in the promo for Episode 15 "Something They Need."

In the promo, Rick's group appears to be on the march to fight, which means they may reach the destination of their battle when the Season 7 finale approaches. Reedus could have been teasing a major battle between Rick's group of soldiers and Negan's army of Saviors. Could this be the rumored "All Out War" event from the comics?

Regardless, we'll have to wait for this week's episode, "Something They Need" to air in order to determine if a Braveheart-style battle is going to be waged in the finale. If so, let's hope that Rick delivers a rousing battle speech to the soldiers in his army, so inspiring that is calls back to Wallace's speech in Braveheart.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays on AMC. Episode 15, "Something They Need," airs March 26th, 2017.
