It'd be a bit of an understatement to say that horror fans have been eager to see more about the eighth Saw film, Jigsaw. Since it was announced in 2016 that the Saw franchise would be returning to the big screen, many fans have been patiently waiting to see a trailer and learn how the Jigsaw killer will be returning 11 years after his death.
Well, the wait is over as we now have our first official look at Jigsaw.
Perhaps the most shocking moment of the trailer is the reveal that John Kramer's DNA was found at a crime scene under a victim's nails, so we can't help but wonder how exactly they are bringing back Jigsaw himself. Kramer died fairly early in the franchise, so disciples and apprentices are something familiar.
Judging from the trailer, it would appear that the film's writers, Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, have taken the direction of Jigsaw apprentices once again. After all, we've already been treated to at least five different apprentices in the previous seven films, so it should prove to be interesting to see who is revealed as an apprentice this time around.
As far as original apprentices go, franchise favorites Costas Mandylor and Cary Elwes both are confirmed not to be returning for Jigsaw, so it's safe to say we won't see either of them back — that is, if we even hear or see Detective Hoffman or Dr. Gordon mentioned at all. However, Jigsaw himself Tobin Bell returned for the eighth installment (obviously), so it will be exciting to see how he was incorporated into the film.
Either way, this isn't a bad trailer at all. When it comes to #Saw films, the trailer reveals were always some of the most fun aspects of the franchise, and it appears that Lionsgate has really kept up with the style of the previous films. That is definitely a positive sign for fans who are worried about this new movie. The traps look more than gruesome, and from the looks of the main trap that is teased, they are using some nostalgia that diehard fans should definitely recognize (Fatal Five, anyone?).
We don't have much longer to wait for the games to begin once again as Jigsaw hits theaters on October 27, 2017. The film is directed by Peter and Michael Spierig and stars Mandela Van Peebles, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez.
