This is a puzzling development. Netflix has made either the incredibly bold or decidedly dumb decision to throw its freshman prison drama Orange Is the New Black into the drama category for next year's Emmy and Golden Globe awards. The streaming service had originally chosen to stick the show in the comedy category but clearly had a change of heart and decided being funny didn't quite cut it.
This decision strikes me as odd when you consider the competition the show is now up against in the new category. Instead of challenging shows like Parks and Recreation and Veep for awards glory, Orange will now go up against heavy hitters such as Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Homeland and Netflix's very own House of Cards.
I enjoyed the show a lot but that is a seriously tough challenge.
