It looks like one of our favorite vampires may be facing a new dilemma, as it has just been announced that Claire Holt has joined the cast of ABC's apocalyptic drama pilot Doomsday. The former star of CW series will be headlining the project, alongside a stellar cast — including Taye Diggs, Rachelle Lefevre, Jack Davenport and Dan Byrd.

The Australian actress is undoubtedly best known for her portrayal of Rebekah Mikaelson on and its spin-off The Originals — which is set to return for its fourth season this month. While she hasn't been a series regular since the first season, the Original sister doesn't stay off our screens for too long as she still pops up from time to time as a special guest star. Holt is also well known to audiences for her starring role as Emma Gilbert in H2O: Just Add Water, her recurring role in Pretty Little Liars and she most recently starred in NBC's event series Aquarius.

What Is 'Doomsday' About?

According to TVLine, the ABC pilot will be helmed by Mark Bianculli and VJ Boyd — known for their work on Justified — and will center around a secret think-tank tasked with coming up with possible disaster scenarios. But things will take a catastrophic turn when one of those made-up scenarios actually comes true.

Holt's character will be named Kayla, but at this moment that's all we know about her. As pilot season draws nearer, we should expect to hear more details about the show and any possible casting news as well. The concept sounds really intriguing and it seems like this could be a fresh take on the popular — but recycled — apocalyptic genre, so I certainly hope it gets picked up for a full series.

So as the pilot of Doomsday begins production in the coming months, allow me to take this moment to say that I'm thrilled to hear Claire Holt will be making a return to TV. The talented actress has already had an incredibly successful career so far, and I really hope Doomsday is ordered to a full series by ABC. While we have already seen the apocalyptic genre rehashed in film and TV many times before, this pilot promises a fresh new take on the recycled theme — and that could prove to be a really compelling concept.
