If you're anything like me, you've probably spent the last few weeks feverishly feasting on any and all conversation about this year's Academy Awards. The are a big deal, the ultimate recognition of excellence in cinema, and the 2017 ceremony has some real potential to throw up a few major shocks in a year so filled with great movies and performances that some are bound to be ignored.

We're covering the nomination announcements live as they roll in from Los Angeles, and you can watch the ceremony too, or just follow our rolling coverage here.

We start with a montage from previous nominees explaining what it feels like to be nominated. And then we're off.

The Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2017.

And with that, we're done.

No immediate shocks in the big categories — the most obvious feels like Amy Adams's absence from Best Actress, even though is nominated in Best Director and Picture. Michael Shannon's momentum had fallen off a bit before Christmas so it's a pleasant surprise to see him recognized in Best Supporting Actor.
