Pacific Rim was released in 2013, and it became a surprise hit. In fact, it became one of the few modern original blockbusters, not based on an established property, that managed to thrive.

Warner Bros. greenlit a sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising. The movie initially had a hard time getting off the ground, but fortunately for fans of the first film, Universal Pictures assembled a star-studded cast for the sequel that includes John Boyega and Scott Eastwood, and it's hitting theaters next year.

At San Diego Comic Con, the studio released the movie's first teaser, but aside from that and some posters, Uprising's marketing has been relatively quiet. However, with less than five months to go until it hits theaters (you know, not that I'm counting), Universal has given us a treat.

Get Ready For Some More Exciting Jaeger Action

is happening right now, and during the movie's panel, we got a brand new trailer. Check it out in all of its Jaeger glory:

Oh yeah, I'm so ready for the movie. This second chapter in the Pacific Rim universe will follow Jake Pentecost (), the son of the now-deceased Stacker Pentecost, as he's forced to grow up and help his fellow humans in the war against the dreaded Kaiju.

There has been a lot of worry around the fan community of the sequel not living up to what made the first Pacific Rim so special and beloved, but seeing this footage, I don't think we should worry at all. This new trailer managed to do something really special and tricky, which is to keep the essence of its predecessor while clearly having a grander scale.

Also, I don't know about you, but I felt Jake's speech about canceling the apocalypse was a really nice callback to 's inspiring message in the first film. A bit on-the-nose? Perhaps, but it worked nonetheless.

The film stars John Boyega, , Adria Arjona and Charlie Day. If you can't wait to see another round of upgraded Jaeger fighting Kaiju, Pacific Rim: Uprising will hit theaters on March 23, 2018.

What did you think about the new trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising? Will it live up to its predecessor? Let me know in the comments!
