If you were hoping to see some unseen footage of Kaijus and Jaegers bashing the crap out of each other when Pacific Rim lands on DVD and Blu-ray, I have some disappointing news. Director has confirmed that there won't be a director's cut of the movie, admitting to Bleeding Cool:
This is my director’s cut. There will not be an extended cut right now, we’re not planning on it, but there will be deleted scenes and they were deleted for a reason.
This is quite surprising, especially considering that del Toro admitted that he filmed three different endings for the movie. This next part is kinda spoilery so proceed with caution.
One version of the final scene featured and locking lips, but del Toro decided not to include it because it felt "weird." Here's what he had to say to Badass Digest:
When I was working on the movie we had three or four different versions of the relationship between Charlie and Rinko because I wanted to see if I could make a story about two people liking each other without having to end in a kiss. So when I shot the ending we shot three versions. I’ve never done this before, but instinctively I thought we should do three versions. We did one version where they kiss and it almost felt weird. They’re good friends, they’re pals, good colleagues.
I was thoroughly entertained by Pacific Rim so I won't lose any sleep if we don't get a director's cut. What about you guys? Were you blown away by del Toro's robots vs monsters smash-a-thon?
