Logan was a closing chapter not only for 's Wolverine, but also for Patrick Stewart's Professor Charles Xavier. After almost two decades with these versions of the characters, we said goodbye to them in the most amazing and heart-breaking way possible. However, judging from this latest piece of news, it might not be time to say goodbye to Charles Xavier just yet.

Stewart recently appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden alongside Dan Stevens, who plays Charles Xavier's son, David Haller, in Legion:

Corden asked Stewart about his retirement from the universe, and the legendary actor recalled the time he watched Logan and realized it was the perfect end for his character:

"While I was watching the credits, the idea simply floated into my head: There will never be a more perfect time, a more appropriate time, than to say 'thank you and goodbye' to this franchise."

But Charles Xavier is part of a superhero universe, where no one really has an end (unless you're Uncle Ben). And Patrick Stewart understands that, so he brought up his possible appearance in Deadpool 2:

"However [...] Somebody has mentioned 'Deadpool'.

It was at that moment that became every single one of us comic book nerds and quickly asked Stewart:

"What about Professor X in 'Legion'? Technically, Patrick plays my father - I mean, Professor X is David Haller's father in the Marvel Universe. So essentially, I've got a job offer."

James Corden asked Stewart if he would be willing to appear in the show, and the actor responded with the fanboy-tear-inducing:

"Absolutely! 100%"

Now, this was certainly an awesome moment for all of us comic book nerds, but keep in mind this isn't in any way a confirmation of Charles Xavier appearing in Legion. It could have just been a fun moment between the two actors. With that said, we can't deny the possibility of that happening. has been fairly light on X-Men references but the show is set in the X-Men universe, as showrunner Noah Hawley revealed:

"It's conceived more as a standalone. I don't want to say too much more about it on that level, but certainly it's not constructed as a back-door anything. It's more just that there's a story that I want to explore that has to fit into that larger universe, which is exciting."

Therefore, having the father of the protagonist, who also happens to be one of the most important characters in X-Men history, makes complete sense. Charles Xavier has a very rich and interesting dynamic with his son that would fit perfectly with the tone set by Legion.

So far, Xavier has been presented as the squeaky clean face of the X-Men. He is a mentor to young and confused mutants who need help, so it would be interesting to see explore a darker side as a father who's kept his incredibly powerful and unstable child hidden. And it would be a great addition for all of us who've been eagerly anticipating at least a mention of the powerful mutant in the show.

Could Professor X appear in Legion? Would you like to see that? Let me know in the comments!
