Now, with #HughJackman remaining gruelingly determined to step down from his iconic role as #Wolverine once #Fox's #Logan hits theaters, you might be tempted to see the film — in which older versions of Wolverine and #ProfessorX are sad in a desert — as a last hurrah for both of its stars. After all, #PatrickStewart, who plays the good professor, is now 76, and has been hanging out in that wheelchair for a whopping great 17 years now.
If Stewart were to see Logan as a natural end-point for his character's narrative arc, then, it would be an understandable decision — albeit a pretty darned disappointing one.
Patrick Stewart Is Totally Up For Playing Professor X Again
That, at least, was what he recently revealed during an interview with ET, noting that:
"Hugh has raised the flag that says goodbye. I haven’t done that yet."
Which, while not exactly a step-by-step breakdown of precisely what Professor X's next few moves in the X-Men movie universe might be, is still a fairly explicit statement of intent. If Fox wants him — which the company surely would, at least in some capacity — it seems that Patrick Stewart will indeed be returning to play Professor X, for at least one more appearance.
Or, alternatively, he and Jackman have just been messing with us this whole time, and have jokingly switched their retirement plans around in order to throw us off the scent of the Wolverine/Deadpool movie fans have been clamoring for since pretty much forever. Unlikely, sure, but not technically impossible.
What do you think, though? Which X-Men projects would you like to see Patrick Stewart pop up in next? Let us know below!
