We never like it when a Doctor regenerates in Doctor Who. All the emotions hit us hard and we just can't cope with it. David Tennant and Matt Smith are prime examples of this. However, the time is nearly here, and will be regenerating in the long-running show on Christmas Day this year.

Now, regenerating may seem pretty simple and straightforward for the Doctor. However, in a recent interview, Peter Capaldi has heavily hinted that his regeneration in the Christmas Special won't be as straightforward as we expect. Speaking to NY Times, Capaldi said this:

“There’s this notion now that it’s the same process he’s gone through every time, and that’s not true. It’s only the last couple of regenerations that have been, as it were, fairly straightforward ones. I can’t go into the details of a lot of it, because I know what happens, but I don’t know how it happens.”

Peter Capaldi has also announced to the public that he was so close to staying with the science fiction show to do a fourth series. However, he decided to depart from Doctor Who alongside current showrunner, Steven Moffat.

“They asked me to stay on. And I love this show. But I began to get worried about my capacity to deliver my best work. The schedule is very intense, and I began to wonder, how many different ways can I find to say. The time vortex is going to open up and destroy the entire universe as we know it, unless we blow up that model spaceship over there? It concerned me that if I did more, yes, I’d be able to do it, but I’d just be phoning it in. And I didn’t ever want to be in that situation.”

Doctor Who fans know that most actors who play the Time Lord usually stay on for three series each, then bow out and let someone else take on the role. BBC is already hunting down someone to play the thirteenth Doctor. With reports suggesting the BBC is looking for a dashing male in his 30s, it doesn't seem like it's going to be an easy job. Hopefully the replacement will be revealed very soon.

Peter Capaldi's final series begins on Saturday, April 15th, where he his joined by new companion. Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie. Check out the trailer below in preparation for the spectacular series to come:
