Sad news for Tolkien fanboys and girls hoping that would be making an appearance at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego, the director has announced that he just won't have the time to fly in and bring a sizzle reel of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

At last year's SDCC, Jackson surprised fans when he made a guest appearance to give fans a pre-screen of 12 minutes of The Hobbit. He showed the clip in 24 FPS after a disastrous previous sneak peek showing at Cinema-Con of his original vision of 48 FPS. But in his latest production diary from the set of The Hobbit 2, Jackson reveals he's too busy trying to finish the film and start production on The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies to put together a great clip for Comic-Con. The entire video is almost eleven minutes long and worth a watch, but if you're pressed for time, no worries - he addresses his SDCC absence at the start of the video:

The Hobbit 2 is hitting theaters on December 13th.
