The DCEU is in full swing, with the fifth installment in the franchise coming out this year in Zach Snyder's Justice League. So far we know that there's tons more superhero fun on the way, with the likes of Flashpoint, Suicide Squad 2, Cyborg and — next up on their list for filming — Shazam!. Shazam is an awesome superhero who's got an amazing backstory that follows a young boy called Billy Batson. His powers work in such a way that when he shouts the name "Shazam" he turns to an adult being with immense power.
Now that we know the Shazam! movie is due to come out in 2019, I think its time we start speculating who he could come up against. We know that Black Adam, Shazam's biggest foe, will not be featuring in this film as he's going to be getting his own stand-alone film. So that leaves us with the burning question — who will be the villain in Shazam!? Let's take a look at who it could be!
1. Dr. Sivana
For this list, I thought we'd start off with Dr. Sivana, one of Shazam's biggest enemies. Dr. Sivana is an incredibly rich and intelligent villain who has fought Shazam multiple times over the years. Dr. Sivana's genius-level intellect would make an interesting foe to have Shazam come up against in the live-action movie. If we see Dr. Sivana in the Shazam movie, we can expect some excellent mental warfare between the pair. To see some of their conflict in action, check out this clip from The Brave & The Bold where we see Dr. Sivana manipulate Shazam's powers:
Sabbac is another huge villain of Shazam, however he's much more of a physical threat than Dr. Sivana. Sabbac was first introduced back in 1943 when he was created by Otto Binder and Al Carreno for Captain Marvel, Jr. #4. Sabbac has the powers of super strength, super agility, flight and of course, intense fire breathing out of his mouth, which will prove Sabbac to be one of the best physical fights that Shazam could come up against. Seeing as Sabbac is such an iconic villain for Billy Batson, it would make sense to see him appear in his first live-action appearance.
Blaze is another demonic-like villain of Shazam's, but her story is much more interesting given the fact that she's Shazam's daughter. Now this story will be unlikely to appear in the first Shazam film seeing as Billy Batson won't be having anytime children soon, but they could change her backstory a little bit to make her a key villain. Blaze has a lot of powers under her belt, including superhuman strength, superhuman agility and other demonic powers.
Blaze, also known as Lady Blaze, takes up residence in Metropolis as a night club owner, a position she uses to steal souls of others. This awesome story along with her awesome powers could make Blaze an incredible villain for Shazam to come up against.
4. Captain Nazi
Captain Nazi is one of the key rivals for Shazam and also one of the most likely to appear in the live action movie. He first appeared in Master Comics #21 in 1941 and since then he's constantly posed threats to Shazam. Captain Nazi acquired his super abilities by being genetically altered by his scientist father, thus making him incredibly powerful. He was originally created to fight Adolf Hitler, which is a totally crazyy story that could be interesting to see unfold in the movie!
For this villain to work, we might have to see Shazam! set in the 1940s, when it would make sense timeline-wise to see Captain Nazi. But if the film was set in present day, they could also have a storyline where Captain Nazi was frozen in ice, only for him to appear in the present day and wreck havoc on earth.
5. The Seven Deadly Enemies of Man
For this list, I've saved the most interesting villain for last. Seven Deadly Enemies of Man — also known as The Seven Deadly Sins — are a pack of very powerful demons who are widely regarded as one of Shazam's biggest foes. The members of the Seven Deadly Sins include Pride, Envy, Greed, Anger, Sloth, Gluttony, and Lust, with Pride supposedly the most powerful of the seven. These demons have the awesome powers to take control of people's bodies and force them to follow their deepest desires. These demons were caught by Shazam and placed in stone statues where they were imprisoned for many years, but often in the comics the demons escape and cause havoc for Shazam.
Throughout this list, we've seen various types of villains Shazam could come up against; whether it's a mental warfare villain like Dr. Sivana, or a physical threat like Sabbac. I think any of these awesome villains would be excellent for the movie, especially when we know Shazam will be coming up against his main villain, Black Adam, in future installments!
Let me know which Shazam villain you want to see in the standalone movie.
