Power Rangers is inching closer to its release date, and with each passing day, we get a few more details about the film. Since the film is based on the nostalgia-laden Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series from the ‘90s, fans have been wondering if any of the old rangers from the original series might make an appearance in the film.

For such fans, good news is afoot. Thanks to the release of the film's production notes from Lionsgate, we now know that 2 original Power Rangers will be appearing in the new film. These two former Rangers have strong ties to the franchise, and have been huge representatives of Power Rangers for decades. Of course, we're talking about Amy Jo Johnson and Jason David Frank, the original Pink and Green Rangers.

Amy Jo Johnson is the first name everyone thinks of when they think of the Pink Ranger. She was one of the original 5 Rangers, and most likely the first crush for a lot of us millennials (speaking from personal experience). Johnson has been extremely active in the Power Rangers fan community, and always has a lot of time and love for her fans.

Due to her status as the immortal Pink Ranger, it’s not surprising that she is credited as Cameo #2 in the Power Rangers production notes. She's already been active in promoting the project, having shocked the new cast with a surprise interview. Given her constant support for the new Pink Ranger Naomi Scott & for the franchise at large, we can't think of anyone more perfect for a cameo role than Amy Jo.

When the reboot was announced, Johnson even threw her hat into the ring to play the role of Rita Repulsa (which she did on one episode of the original show where Zedd tried to make her his queen). We're so glad to see the iconic Pink Ranger make her return, but she's not alone. She's accompanied by Tommy Oliver himself: Jason David Frank.

Jason David Frank is one of the most well-known members of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers cast, largely because of his outspoken support of both the fans and the series. It also doesn’t hurt that he was the coolest guy on TV in the ‘90s, and everyone wanted to be Tommy Oliver (who didn't want to have hair like that?). JDF has truly embraced the show, and the impact it had on his life and career.

JDF's support of the original show has never waned, and he's appeared in many later iterations of the Power Rangers; to date, he is the longest-running cast member of the franchise. Like Johnson, JDF announced his interest in appearing in the Power Rangers reboot in some capacity, and thankfully, he got his wish. JDF is credited as Cameo #1 in the film’s production notes, and hopefully, his appearance heralds the arrival of the film version of Tommy Oliver – and maybe a feature film version of the Green Ranger Saga!

It’s great that Amy Jo Johnson and Jason David Frank will be making cameos in Power Rangers, and it's just another sign that the new film will honor the legacy of the Power Rangers franchise. It’s awesome that we get to see two of the most iconic Rangers on screen again, and let’s hope the new film lives up to the show’s legacy. You can catch Power Rangers in theaters on March 24, 2017.
