A small-town preacher with a violent past, his hard-nosed ex, and his Irish vampire best friend go on a road trip to find God — what could go wrong? Well, for one, Jesse (Dominic Cooper), Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joe Gilgun) are being hunted down by a cowboy from hell known as the Saint of Killers. Oh and let's not forget their Texas town and its entire population blew up, so they don't have much a home to come back to.

Based on the comic book created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, the series focuses more on a prequel storyline to introduce Jesse Custer and his work as a preacher for the town of Annville, Texas. Possessed by a presence known as Genesis, Jesse has special powers of manipulation but is on the search for God — or, as Jesse puts it, to "kick his ass."

The first season gave us some of TV's most eccentric characters including Tulip, Cassidy and Arseface, who left fans of the cult comic series and brand new fans craving more. Just ahead of the Season 2 premiere, AMC has unveiled vibrant character art for the three main players:

After the teaser for Season 2, we see the cast find themselves in some trouble on their search for God. But what else can we expect? show creator and executive producer Seth Rogen spoke to Variety about how the crew feels more comfortable as Season 2 focuses on where the comic series began:

"It was much more nerve-wracking changing the beginning of the comic. That’s what was really scary. If you were expecting the comic within one second of seeing the pilot you would have the realization that you were not getting that. There’s much less pressure now knowing that we are getting into stuff that’s A: is just more exciting for us to be executing, and B: if you’re a fan of the comics it’s more of the stuff you’ve been waiting to see.”

We can fully expect the trio to continue their battle of good and evil throughout the second season and beyond. Jesse is just scratching the surface with his powers through Genesis and there is no doubt they will encounter some new interesting characters among their journey across the country!

Preacher returns on AMC for a two-night premiere on Sunday, June 25th at 10 p.m. and the second episode airs on June 26th at 9 p.m. at its regular timeslot!
