The secret is out. Pretty Little Liars ended its seven-year run this past June, but Freeform has announced that it has ordered a spinoff series titled Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. The series will also see the return of two key characters from the original: Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal. Actresses Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish are set to reprise their roles.

Pretty Little Liars was based on the popular book series by author Sara Shepard. She will once again collaborate with showrunner I. Marlene King on the spinoff, as the series will be based on another one of Shepard's series: The Perfectionists. The leading ladies will find themselves in the town of Beacon Heights, where things aren't as perfect as they might seem. There will be more lies, mysteries and murder — everything fans need to fill the void left by the original series.

Karey Burke, the executive vice president of programming and development at , shared her excitement with the announcement of the new series:

"At Freeform, we are committed to delivering shows that push boundaries and become a part of our viewers lives. Pretty Little Liars was a cultural phenomenon so it's no wonder fans wanted more. We can't wait to continue Marlene King's rich and revolutionary storytelling with a new crop of leading ladies from Beacon Heights who will hold just as many secrets and lies as Rosewood did."

Let's hope this planned spinoff has more success than Ravenswood, which only aired for one season in 2013. King has been vocal about revisiting the lives of our favorite little liars in the future, so fans will be eager to see how closely the spinoff relates to the original.

It feels like just yesterday that we were theorizing possible spinoff ideas for Freeform to explore. With the success in ratings and record-breaking social media presence, it is no surprise that Freeform jumped at the chance of a spinoff this quickly.

It will be interesting to see if other characters reprise their roles or make cameo appearances. Last we saw of Mona, she was living in France keeping up with her kidnapping crusade that played out in the series finale. Meanwhile, Alison seemingly got her happy ending as she was raising her twins alongside Emily ().

It is unclear how the two will find themselves in Beacon Heights, but if they survived the chaos in Rosewood all of those years, the girls can handle anything.

Stay tuned for news on the upcoming spinoff, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists.
