Recently we revealed the soul- (and potentially franchise-) destroying news that may not be reprising his role of Hobbs in the upcoming Furious 7. According to Johnson, the filming schedule for Fast 7, which is due to begin this summer, might collide with the filming of Hercules.
However, now it seems Fast 7 fans can collectively release a massive sigh of relief as Fast & Furious producer Neal Moritz has arrived to put the record straight. He told Collider:
[Fast & Furious 7] is a new chapter, but The Rock will be involved as well.
Yes, we are gonna film this summer. We have been talking about it for quite a while, because while we're making any of the Fast movies we're always talking about what could happen in future Fast films. So it's something that we have been talking about for quite a while.
So, it seems Johnson will be involved, although the conflict of filming schedules is certainly worrying. Johnson has previously stated that Hercules is the one role he felt he was "born to play", so with this mind I can see him prioritizing playing the son of Zeus over Hobbs. Perhaps this means Hobbs will only appear in Fast 7 in a cameo or reduced supporting role? At the moment it is all still open to speculation, although Moritz did accept maintaining all the characters of the franchise was one of its biggest obstacles:
I really think that people are really interested in these characters, and we're lucky enough to have developed so many characters with so many storylines that the biggest hindrance of this franchise is the fact that we just don't have enough screentime to service all the characters in this movie.
If The Rock only has time to deliver one movie this summer, which would you prefer? Fast 7 or Hercules? Let me know below.
