Uh-oh, another pestilential project is about to infect the airwaves! 's hit mid-90's thriller Outbreak is getting a TV reboot. NBC are set to develop the show with E.R. executive producers and Jack Orman working on a pilot script.
Viewers will surely fondly remember the original Outbreak, packing a stellar cast of , , , , and . Remember those halcyon days, when it was Donald rather than rocking your action movies?
It's a good time for 90s remakes, with 12 Monkeys, Fargo and Reality Bites all set to infiltrate the small screen in the near future. It also has to be said that Outbreak storylines are something of an epidemic at the moment. 's Contagion was well received, as were recent illness epics, Blindness, The Crazies and World War Z. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the ultimate infection franchises, Resident Evil and [REC] which now reach their sixth (Resident Evil 6: The Final Chapter) and fourth ([REC 4] Apocalypse) incarnations respectively.
Outbreak, to be produced by , is still festering through its early stages, we will let you know further news when we have it. What do you think of NBC's plan? Should we let Outbreak bacteria grow, or vaccinate against it? Should I stop making puns now? I think it's a kick-ass idea, but then, one of my favorite films is Twister, so I may not be entirely rational when it comes to the 90s.
