Fresh off being Showtime's highest-rated premiere ever, the network has given a not-so-shocking renewal to the drama series Ray Donovan, according to USA Today.

In the first episode we met with 's titular Ray who does the dirty work for LA's top power players. There was an almighty amount of crap going on in his life too, what with a couple of brothers with some serious issues, a deceased sister who jumped off a building whilst high, a scary mobster father, and then there's Ray's new family...

Helluva lot to cram into an opening episode. But it was well packed and fast-paced, so I can see why only the second episode hooked in a whopping 2.2 million viewers. And, following that record-breaking premiere, the network made the announcement today, with saying in a statement:

Ray Donovan is on track to be our biggest season one show ever. [Creator] and the extraordinarily talented creative team, coupled with the brilliant ensemble cast led by Liev Schreiber, have produced one of the hottest new dramas of the year. We are proud and excited to pick up another season.

Pretty stoked by this news myself! Not only does it mean we're all in for another batch of impressive plotlines and performances (from the likes of Schreiber, and ), it also gives us something to fill the void of Showtime's other hit show, Dexter, which is calling it quits later this summer.

Watch the show's first episode here if you haven't caught up yet, and tell me what you think - can Ray Donovan fill the void left by Dexter?
