The winter season is over and there were plenty of anime shows that hit home runs. One of my favorite shows this season was Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, created by Kyoto Animation. I've been monitoring the forums and I've noticed that people either love it with a passion or hate it for other reasons. I fall on the "love it" side and I hope this show gets the praise it deserves. If you haven't seen this show yet then allow me to give you some reasons why you should, at the very least, check the show out. No need to worry, this is a spoiler-free post!
Our story begins with Miss Kobayashi, a single woman who lives an ordinary life. Her ordinary life is changed one day when a magical dragon named Tohru shows up at her doorstep in the form of a cute maid-girl. Remembering her drunk encounter with the dragon girl, Miss Kobayashi decides to allow the Tohru to stay in her home with the condition that she works as her maid. The ordinary life of Miss Kobayashi will never be normal again.
1. Our Dragon Friends Make The Show Awesome
The dragons are what make this show so special. I think it's because they don't fit in human society. They do things that would be seen as strange but they always do it with spectacular fashion. The dragons have this need to understand humans better, so they try to do things that humans do, like go to the beach or an anime convention. Every time they try to be normal, it just doesn't work out and they end up doing something ridiculous. It's hilarious to see and makes you fall in love with this cast of weird but lovable dragons. Every time a dragon does something fun, it brings a smile to your face because you can't help but love their eccentricities.
2. The Comedy Is Some Of The Best This Winter Season
The strongest positive about this show is its comedy. It's a type of comedy that doesn't come around too often. At times, the show hits a point of absurdity or weirdness, but it's funny at the same time. From destroying homes to having epic dodgeball fights, this show provides many comedic moments that have us snort water up our nose (yes, this happened to me). Some moments are worth a quick chuckle and at other times have you dying of laughter! Honestly, the comedy is on par with that of other shows this winter season, like Konosuba.
I can see where people would say this comedy isn't for everyone. If you're more of a casual watcher of #anime, then the abrupt nature of this show may not be for you. This show likes to do mini skits lasting anywhere from five to ten seconds in between the episodic story. I've heard mixed reviews about them, but if you like quirky and at times weird comedy, then this show will definitely be to your liking.
3. The Show Is Charming And Warms My Heart
This show isn't all comedy, you know. There are plenty of moments where this show touches your heart. These times of more serious moments make the show that much more special because you feel for these characters. This show likes to focus on all the great characteristics about human life and what people have to offer. Love, understanding and community are just some of the aspects focused on in the show.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid makes you feel warm deep inside and has a charming aura about it. This show may not be an action thriller, but it gives you this form of satisfaction that you can only get from watching people be happy. In turn, you become a bit happier and try to be a bit of a more positive person. I can say for myself that I always looked forward to new episodes of this show every week. It's just a show that fills me up with happiness every time I watch it.
#MissKobayshisDragonMaid is a show that does its job very well. It makes you laugh every episode, and you can't help but fall in love with the crazy cast of strange dragons who are trying to figure out human society. Aside from that, this show has moments of sincerity, trying to show us what great qualities there are about the world which we forget about every now and then. If any of this sounds intriguing to you then please, check this show out. It will be worth the time and you may even end up with a new favorite show.
