It turns out she'll fly into tomorrow after all. The Wicked Witch, aka Zelena, played to perfection by Rebecca Mader, has booked her return to #OnceUponATime for the series' upcoming rebooted season 7.
The onetime series regular will join the seventh season for a multiple episode arc, but the details of her return are being kept tightly under wraps. It's unknown if the actress is only set to appear in flashbacks or return in present time, like departed lead Jennifer Morrison. It's also unknown at this time if she and her daughter Robin, along with Regina, Hook, and Rumple, will be trapped in Seattle as this new curse plagues our favorite heroes in season 7.
Mader spoke to TVLine about her upcoming return, and she could not have been more elated about being given the opportunity to play Zelena once again,
“I am beyond thrilled to be returning to make magic with my beloved 'Once Upon a Time' family. I’m excited for this next chapter.”
Like #JenniferMorrison, Mader departed the series as a regular cast member at the end of season 6. The mass exodus of main cast members also included Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Emilie De Ravin, and Jared Gilmore. The latter was recast with The Walking Dead's Andrew J. West taking over the role of Henry Mills. Fellow alumni announced to return include Gilmore and De Ravin in episodes 1 and 4 of the new season.
New to the series as regulars, alongside West, are Dania Ramirez (Cinderella), Alison Fernandez (Henry and Cinderella's daughter, Lucy) Gabrielle Anwar (Lady Tremaine), and Mekia Cox (Tiana). Actresses Adelaide Kane and Rose Reynolds will recur as Cinderella's step-sister Drizella and Alice of Alice In Wonderland. The series also recently cast a new version of Rapunzel, set to be played by TURN star Meegan Warner.
Fans of the beloved #ABC series are sure in for a wickedly delightful October treat when Once Upon A Time returns for season 7, moving to its new Fantasy Friday time slot, on October 6.
