Oh, , in the words of Sassy Gay Friend, "What, what, WHAT are you doing?"
Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning to find an article had been assigned to me in which I was supposed to write about the bubbly, sunshiny, mostly-vanilla Reese getting into a verbal scrap with the cops and being arrested. I genuinely thought at first it was a prank being played on me.
But no. That really happened, everyone. If you haven't heard about it by now, actress and one of America's sweethearts, Reese Witherspoon, and her husband Jim Toth were both arrested in Atlanta on early Friday morning. Toth was taken in for a DUI and Witherspoon for getting aggressive with the cops, according to TMZ.
Even worse, she apparently pulled the whole celebrity card and snapped it down on the table hard, whipping out the old, "Do you know my name?" and when the cop responded that no, he did not, but nor did he need to, following up with, "You're about to find out who I am...You're going to be on national news."
Oh, no, Reese. NOOOO. Not that. Anything but that. Not the arrogant celebrity entitlement card. ESPECIALLY when you were both endangering lives on the road.
Toth was driving when it all went down. Cops pulled him over when they saw the silver Ford Fusion weaving in and out of lanes (as well they would have). Witherspoon, also more than a little intoxicated, apparently got out of the car not once, but twice, to verbally harangue the police officers about how long it was taking. After the second time, she was told to sit down lest she be charged with disorderly conduct. The actress complied, but as you can guess, that didn't last long. When she got out of a car for the third time, police officers had no choice but to arrest her, too. Both were taken into custody, booked, and arrested a short time later.
Seriously, Reese? After the week we just had here in Boston, you're going to pull that on the cops? Really? Your husband was driving drunk on the road and being a danger to others. Think about it.
