The font of news coming out of D23 is nearly unceasing. Now we have word that Disney Animation is once again teaming with Tangled director for a new project called Zootopia. The film, featuring an all animal cast, has been described as a “buddy action comedy set in a world where humans never existed.” Howard will direct from a script by feature film newbie and the release date is scheduled for 2016.
The above photo is the first piece of revealed concept art for Disney's Zootopia. Here's the plot synopsis as relayed by /Film, who incidentally have done an outstanding job covering D23...
"In the animal city of Zootopia, a fast-talking fox who’s trying to make it big goes on the run when he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Zootopia’s top cop, a self-righteous rabbit, is hot on his tail, but when both become targets of a conspiracy, they’re forced to team up and discover even natural enemies can become best friends. In theaters in 2016."
As a diehard fan of buddy cop movies, my favorites being--Lethal Weapon, Running Scared, and Freebie & The Bean--I am really interested to see how Disney will make this work. The premise actually sounds more like one of Walter Hill's anti-buddy movies where the partners aren't necessarily buddies or cops. In other words, this sounds more like 48 Hrs...so I'm even more excited.
What do you guys think?
