Adult Swim's Rick and Morty has created a buzz unlike any other animated show in recent years, and perhaps its buzziest moment ever was Rick's heartfelt rant about his love of McDonald's Mulan promotional Szechuan sauce from the 1990s. Once the film left movie theaters, the sauce was permanently retired.
Thanks to Rick and Morty, the internet went into viral meltdown with Szechuan sauce-related content and extravagant eBay bids. McDonald's chef Mike Haracz made a special batch for show creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland — a due to popular demand, the sauce will be resurrected for the masses ... but for one day only: Saturday, October 7th. Here's the announcement via Twitter:
As fans' excitement grows and the eagerness to grab as much sauce as possible rises, this quote from McDonald's must be noted:
"Limited quantities for a limited run available in specific restaurants for one day only."
Ah, damnit! So it's a limited offer once again! To find out if a McDonald's near you will have the sweet stuff, head over to ButterMilkCrispyTenders.com.
This is a perfect demonstration of the power that fandom can have. Social media played a huge part in this obscure condiment becoming available again — so never doubt the power of Rick and Morty to change the world, if only for a day.
