Now, for a man who spent several decades making absolutely no movies, director sure has dived right back into the thick of things. Even with the imminently arriving very much on its way, and only a few years old, y'see, he's already got his heart set on making a whole lot more movies in the franchise he first brought to life back in 1979.

So much so, in fact, that he's been speculating wildly about the number of sequels he might make in the near future. A few days ago, we discovered that he may have up to six sequels roughly planned out — a number that may have been a little over-ambitious. Instead, then:

That, at least, is the latest word from the film's recent panel discussion over at , in which Scott revealed that:

"'Alien vs. Predator' really f—ing nailed [the franchise] into the ground... I thought about that for awhile, and I said, ‘I can bring this back.’ And here’s the cause and effect: We resurrected it with 'Prometheus,' which had two really good questions that the others weren’t asking: Who made [the aliens] and why? 'Prometheus' set that up. ['Covenant'] answers ‘who and why.’ Then it leaves all kinds of questions for the next two, or three, or four. 'Covenant 2' is already being written as I speak right now."

Which, on top of being gloriously snarky about , would seem to suggest that Scott has plans to direct (or at least help bring into being) up to four more Alien movies after Alien: Covenant. Now, of course, when pressed to confirm an exact number, Scott went all vague and professional, revealing only that:

"You never know... We’ll see how well it plays. There’s a lot of potential in this one. It’s not just what you might expect. There are a lot of interesting questions that are pretty fascinating — about creation, who are we, and where do we come from … As you develop something and make something, all kinds of notions evolve."

For anyone hoping to see more Alien sequels in the near future, however, it really does seem as though the news is likely to be good. Assuming, of course, that Covenant makes decent money at the box office. And, y'know, doesn't suck.

What do you think, though? How many Alien sequels would you like to see after Covenant? Let us know below!
