It's the moment Bates Motel fans have been waiting for! A&E has given us our first look at singer Rihanna in the legendary role of Marion Crane. This is the famous character from Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 thriller Psycho, a beautiful and chrismatic woman who has stolen money from her boss for her married boyfriend and hit the road. She finds herself spending the night at the Bates Motel after being caught in a bad rainstorm, as you can see below:

This character has become so famous because, although we are led to believe that she is the leading lady of the film, she's actually killed in the first act.
According to Bates Motel executive producer Kerry Ehrin, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rihanna's new version of Marion Crane is very different from the one we saw in the original film:
“We’re taking threads of that story and definitely using them so it’s recognizable, it’s just where we go with it is very different. It’s tough to be in a situation where you’re in love with a guy, and for whatever reason, he keeps stalling. You still have all this hot sex with him, and he’s saying he loves you, but he’s stalling. The internal story of that, for a woman, is a really interesting one. We never really got to see that. In Psycho, you just see the outside of that more. It was trying to do a story about a contemporary woman with some edge, with some expectations, who isn’t perfect, who isn’t always perfectly sweet, who is in that situation, but we’re rooting for her to get what she wants.”
Although Crane has no intention of winding up in even more trouble than she's already in, apparently she crosses paths with Norman Bates at a very pivotal time. The fifth season picks up 18 months after Norma's death, and Norman is just as vulnerable as ever, according to Ehrin:
“He’s in a very fragile and lonely place, and Marion Crane is a charismatic woman, she’s super present when she’s with him and she’s very attractive — all those things are exactly what he needs right at this moment.”
We all know how this story ends, but I dare you to find one Psycho fan that's won't be shouting for Rihanna to run for the hills. Maybe skip the shower this time? Take a look at the brand new promo for the fifth and final season over at EW.
Bates Motel returns to A&E on February 20 at 10/9c.
