So far, this season of Legends Of Tomorrow has done a great job of keeping us all on the edges of our seats. We have witnessed shocking superhero deaths, listened to cryptic messages and were introduced to new superhero Citizen Steel. However, nothing has been puzzling than the mysterious disappearance of everyone's favorite captain — Rip Hunter.

However, all was revealed in the midseason finale when we were reintroduced to Rip, who turned up as a film director in the 1970s — directing a film about Rip Hunter. I know, confusing, right? But after a Christmas break with no answers, we now finally have an extended trailer for the show's January return.

Check out the brand new trailer below:

So, with what certainly looks like a jam-packed second half of the season ahead, let's take a look at everything that the new trailer has revealed, and discuss what it could mean for the upcoming episodes.

Rip Doesn't Remember The Legends

This whole season, we have been hoping to catch a glimpse of Rip Hunter. But alas, after his mysterious disappearance, Rip had yet to resurface. When he finally reappeared in the midseason finale, he just didn't seem like himself. Instead of traveling through time, we was directing a film with a protagonist who — you guessed it! — traveled through time. So we knew something was off about him.

Judging by this new trailer's revelation, that is set to continue into the second half of the season, as Mr. Hunter seemingly has no idea who he is. Despite Sara and Legends turning up to convince him, Rip insists that there is "no such thing as Rip Hunter" or a time ship. Well it's safe to say he questions those beliefs when he is confronted by his old time traveling companion — the Waverider.

After the Legends take Rip back to the Waverider, Gideon concludes that he has been "reprogrammed" with a new identity — Phil — explaining his sudden amnesia. Moreover, it also explains why he never returned to the Waverider during Season 2.

`Now that they know what caused his amnesia, it will be up to the Legends to convince him that they are his friends, and ultimately try to help him regain his memories. While "Phil" may be a quite different from our beloved original Rip Hunter, it certainly is great to see our favorite time traveling captain back where he belongs — by his trusty Legends' sides.

So while we know that Rip Hunter has been reprogrammed, the question is — who took away his memories? Thankfully, this new trailer has been good enough to answer that question, and reveals that the whole mystery surrounding Rip's disappearance is down to the formidable Legion Of Doom. It seems that the Reverse-Flash, Damien Darhk and Malcolm Merlyn are the ones responsible for Captain Hunter's new occupation, and more importantly his amnesia.

While this certainly makes things very interesting, we have to wonder — why did the Legion reprogram Rip instead of killing him? And perhaps more importantly, what do they want with him? Perhaps they were troubled by Hunter's knowledge of the timeline, and thus, decided to strip the Legends of their leader. Or maybe they actually need him for something.

Either way, you can bet that the Legends won't take this lying down, and will do whatever it takes to unscramble Rip's brain, and bring their Captain back to help them take down the Legion Of Doom.

The Legends & The Legion Will Collide

While we still don't know everything about the Legion Of Doom's mysterious alliance, it seems that they need Rip Hunter alive to execute their plan — hence the reprogramming instead of killing him. However, their involvement in the situation has ensured one thing — the Legends will track them down.

The majority of Season 2 has revolved around the Legends derailing the Legion's plans throughout time — that is, until the evildoers attempted to lure the #superheroes into a trap, which the Legends ultimately foiled as well. So you can bet that they won't be far behind the Legion of Doom, especially when they hear that Rip is in danger. The trailer reveals this when Ray, Sara, Nate, Jax and Amaya show up to save Hunter from Damien Darhk's clutches. As Ray so aptly puts it "We got you, Rip." Yes, they most certainly have.

New Night, New Time

It's no coincidence that out of all their superheroes #TV shows, The CW has chosen Legends Of Tomorrow's return to promote the most. Undoubtedly, the reason for this is the network's decision to move it to a new night. Originally airing on Thursday, Legends will now air on Tuesday nights alongside parent show #TheFlash.

While many originally suspected that the network moved the show for fear of its lower ratings, the CW negated those claims when it renewed all of the superhero shows — including Legends — surprisingly early. Don't get worried, Legends Of Tomorrow isn't leaving us anytime soon, it's just moving nights.

So with a heck of a lot of juicy stuff in store, it looks like the second half of Legends Of Tomorrow's second season might be even better than the first. This brand new extended trailer has certainly given us a lot to be excited — Rip Hunter's resurfacing has certainly raised the stakes in the time battle between the Legends and the Legion, while it looks like there might be some in-fighting between former #Arrow villains Malcolm Merlyn and Damien Darhk. And let's not forget about Captain Cold's mysterious resurrection in Mick Rory's head. Will the icy ghost be joining the Legion Of Doom?

The future may not be set, but it definitely seems like Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 is set to be amazing!

Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 returns to the CW on Tuesday 24 January. Are you excited? Let us know in the comments!
