is rumored to want $100 million and a higher percentage of the box office take to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as his iconic character, Iron Man. Is Marvel going to pay up to get Downey back as Shellhead for any of the upcoming Phase 2 (or even Phase 3) movies?
If Marvel Studios wants to have the very key Avenger show up for Phase 2 finale The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, expected Phase 3 movie The Avengers: Infinity War, or even the already anticipated Iron Man 4, they just might have to. According to [ComicBook.com](according to ComicBook.com, the still totally unconfirmed $100 million and the increased box office stake would cover those three movies. As Marvel moves on with its plans for world cinema domination, these three Tony Stark-centric movies are more and more important in terms of deals getting inked and locked in for production.
Thanks to the consistent, carefully thought out plan for the MCU and the fact that now that the characters have been established, it will be arguably very hard for the studio to replace any of their already enmeshed characters. (Or in the case of Iron Man, killed off and brought back in a new incarnation.) Any kind of rift in the casting of and Avengers ensemble piece (or even Guardians of the Galaxy) or the stand-alone films for members like Thor or Captain America would put a super-wrench in the Marvel machinery. In addition, it could make it tougher for stand-alone movies like Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and more to get off the ground. [[poll]]
Downey probably knows what he's doing, seeing as Avengers director is rumored to be getting $100 million for what could be understood as future Marvel projects, plus Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. He made a killing with The Avengers and is now supporting the rest of his superteam in getting better contracts, so if the solidarity sticks it might mean that Marvel will have to pay up.
Is Downey with worth it, or is this just a case of getting greedy? Let me know what you think in the comments.
